On 31 May 2023, how many total tax incentives will be listed in the Alternative Fuels Data Center?
As both the need and demand for alternative fuels continue to increase, state and federal governments continue to provide tax incentives to encourage alternative fuel use. The Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC) tracks these individual incentives through a database that is updated regularly.
This question will be resolved using the publicly available data from the Alternative Fuels Data Center, Laws and Incentives section. To view the total number of tax incentives, click on the “Incentives” tab, then locate the number in the “Totals” row of the “Tax Incentives” column.
To see a list of the laws included in that count, click the number listed there (105 as of the launch date of this question, 15 September 2022), which will take you to a search page. Click “All” in the “Jurisdiction,” “Technology/Fuel,” and “User” Categories, and “tax incentives” in the “Incentive/Regulation” category. Then press search to download a csv of the list.
Additional information on the Incentives data used can be found here. To access historical data of past incentives, click here and then select “Laws and Incentives” as the data set, “All” as the jurisdiction and click “Yes” next to Expired.
