the eu has worked on alternative imports for a while now, if there is now big increase in demand to the previous years, it will not happen

The european countries have been quite hesitant in the military assistance of ukraine since the start of the war. See restrictions on weapons-usages or not delivering key pieces. There seems to be a concensus as to not escalate the war too much and anger the russians.
Deploying troops to ukraine feels like a big escalation the EU countries would not be willing to make.
