Even though the border dispute between India and China has been long, and complicated, and both countries want to assert their claim with China building a large military post and increasing its military presence along the disputed area, a confrontation which could lead to fatalities has a low probability. This is because the current government / and likely any future govt treats the border dispute with China in a different light from that with Pakistan. The current government categorically states that the "India-China competition" should never turn into conflict, and it has been a longstanding policy to continue efforts of cooperation with China for global and regional stability
